Everyday Math Questions

I am putting this post out there in hopes of getting some great feedback from all the amazing bloggers out there that are already using the Everyday Math series.

Our district is beginning the conversations of adopting a new math series for the future. Many of us are familiar with EM and would love to move forward with this series. We have lots of questions about implementation though. We are currently using a Houghton Mifflin series and we know that the switch to CCSS would not allow us to continue using this series as it does not meet the more rigorous demands they bring along.

So, that being said, we are curious to hear how other districts have approached the adoption of the EM series. Did you jump in feet first, district wide? Did you begin with Kindergarten one year and move up? Did you begin with a couple of grade levels and add certain aspects of the program into all the other grade levels? Did you get any specific training from The University of Chicago to help you with the implementation. Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated! I am counting on all of you to add some great information!

Word Study

Okay...so I have been completely distracted from blog world for the past several months as I have been learning how to teach thirdies to prepare for state testing. I had to teach myself how to do these things first...yikes! Talk about feeling like an old dog!! Okay so testing starts Tuesday and I am so ready for my kiddos to just knock it out of the park!! They have worked so hard and I am so proud of them!

So...I titled this post Word Study because I am so curious what everyone out there does for Word Study or Spelling. Our district has no set curriculum for this area and we all do things a little differently. I am following alot of the ideas and suggestions Beth Newingham discussed on her blog post for Scholastic. I also have the Fountas and Pinnel word study set as well as the Words Their Way books. I try to use all these resources to make word study a meaningful time in the day for my kiddos.

I would love to read all about what you all do for this in your classrooms or districts.
